About Myrtillocactus Geometrizans (Blue Candle Cactus)
Native to central and northern Mexico, Myrtillocactus geometrizans is a striking columnar cactus prized for its blue-grey skin and elegant branching habit. In the wild, it grows into a tree-like form reaching up to 4–5 metres, with multiple arms branching from a central trunk — earning it the common name “Blue Candle.”
The cactus produces small edible purple berries known as “garambullo” in Mexico, considered a local delicacy. It’s a fast grower in warm conditions, drought-tolerant, and makes an excellent specimen plant for gardens, large pots, or xeriscaping.

POT A CUTTING: Always wear gloves when handling cactus, we recommend welding gloves. Fill a pot with cactus soil, then insert the base of each cutting to a depth of about 10-15cm, or deep enough that it stands up unsupported. Water the planted cutting until the soil is evenly wet. Place the pot in a warm room in filtered sunlight. Water the cactus when the top inch of soil begins to dry out.
LIGHT: Ideally these plants love full sun, but you’ll need to slowly introduce them back to the light or the skin will get burn spots. Start by putting it in a location that gets sunlight in the mornings and then each week move it into locations with more and more light.
WATER: Myrtillocactus Geometrizans are pretty tough, they will make do with whatever rain they get. If undercover or inside, only water them when they have already absorbed all the moisture in the soil.
